Embalming Course Overview

Our embalming course is a part-time course, taking approximately 1.5 to 2 years to complete. It is delivered via distance-based learning and is recognised by the Professional Embalmers’ Association of Ireland (PEAI).

Course Structure

The course consists of both theoretical learning and practical guidance.

Theoretical Learning Modules:

Module I – Introduction to Embalming

Module II – Anatomy and Physiology

Unit 1: Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology
Unit 2: The Skeletal and Muscular Systems
Unit 3: The Circulatory and Lymphatic Systems
Unit 4: The Respiratory and Digestive Systems
Unit 5: The Skin

Module III – Embalming Theory

Unit 1: Infection and Immunity
Unit 2: Disease and Disease Conditions
Unit 3: The Process of Death
Unit 4: Hygienic Treatment Procedure

Module IV – Embalming Practice

Unit 1: Embalming Theatre
Unit 2: Embalming Chemicals and Safety
Unit 3: Embalming/Hygienic Treatment

Each module builds on core concepts, enhancing students’ understanding of human biology and applications in mortuary science.

Recommended Experience

Before joining the course, we highly recommend that students contact a local funeral home to observe at least two embalmings. If this is not possible, we can discuss alternative arrangements during the introduction day.
